TourTurf® ZSC Zeolite Soil Conditioner (Greens Grade)

39002

TourTurf® ZSC is an Italian oven dried and sterilised chabazite zeolite. Approved by the USGA as an inorganic amendment in the construction of putting greens. The product has extraordinary chemical-physical properties, such as high and selective cation exchange capacity and high water retention. It helps improve turf root zone quality, reduce irrigation needs, minimise nutrient leaching, and support sustainable turf management by enhancing nutrient availability and use efficiency (NUE).

It can help you improve the quality of your turf root zone, protect the environment by saving irrigation water, avoid leaching of nutrients, and make your turfgrass management more sustainable by increasing nutrient availability and using nutrients efficiently.

TourTurf® ZSC is recommended for the construction and soil improvement of sandy soils such as golf greens and professional football pitches. It is also beneficial in deep soil coring for improving soils with poor fertility or with poor water retention.

Zeolites absorb up to 55% of their weight in water and release it slowly, helping prevent root rot and drought stress. Ideal for treating Localised Dry Spots and Fairy Rings. After aeration, backfill holes with TourTurf® ZSC and saturate with water. Use a quality wetting agent for best results.

TourTurf® ZSC also increases drainage, porosity and soil oxygenation. This is how it reduces the leaching of nutrients and increases soil fertility.

The Benefits of Natural Zeolite for Turf on Sand-Based Root Zones
Zeolite can help you improve the quality of your turf root zone, protect the environment by saving irrigation water, avoid leaching of nutrients, and make your turfgrass management more sustainable by increasing nutrient availability and using nutrients efficiently.

Root zones for turfgrass need to have certain properties to contribute to a high-quality playing surface and to provide the perfect growing medium for turf:

  • High water infiltration rate
  • Good moisture retention
  • Minimum compaction potential
  • Good aeration
  • High cation exchange capacity (CEC)

Because of the heavy foot traffic on playing surfaces, sand is often the main component of turf root zones. The right sand provides good aeration, good water infiltration and low compaction potential.

Sand-based root zone media for golf greens or soccer pitches hold less nutrients and water than soil-based root zones, as in push-up greens. This can lead to more leaching into groundwater and increased use of fertilisers and irrigation water. Scientists have been looking for materials that can reduce compaction, improve drainage and retain sufficient water when mixed with sand.

Usually, root zones are a mixture of sand plus some kind of organic material like peat. The organic material added will increase water and nutrient retention. But with time, organic material naturally is decomposed, and layering might be an issue.

Zeolite is a material that you can add to the mix to greatly improve its physical properties. This soil amendment will increase the nutrient holding capacity, the moisture retention and is very stable. When added to heavy soils like in push-up greens, it will improve drainage due to its porosity.

ZSC – Water Retention and Absorption Capabilities
Zeolite, a naturally occurring microporous mineral, has the remarkable ability to retain water equivalent to its own weight. After reaching its retention capacity, zeolite continues to absorb additional moisture, thanks to its highly porous structure. This makes it an excellent material for water management in agriculture, gardening, and environmental applications.

Benefits of Water Conservation
Using zeolite to retain and manage water reduces water waste and improves efficiency. It ensures that plants have a steady supply of moisture, reducing irrigation needs and conserving water in arid regions. Additionally, this promotes sustainable water usage, reduces costs, and helps mitigate the impacts of water scarcity.
