TourTurf® CTB Chitosan Turf Booster

8987

TourTurf® CTB Chitosan Turf Booster is a low-pH organic soil conditioner with a 10 % solution of acid-extracted fungal chitosan. CTB contains NPK, micronutrients, amino acids, carbohydrates, chitosan, chitin-binding lectins and other bioactive ingredients to boost resiliency and aid in seed establishment.

This product is made entirely from fungal chitosan with a uniform structure, making it more easily recognised and absorbed by the plant's immune system. TourTurf® CTB triggers natural defence responses in turf to resist insects, fungal pathogens, and soilborne diseases when applied to leaves or roots. It enhances photosynthesis, promotes growth, stimulates nutrient uptake, improves germination and sprouting, and boosts plant vigour.

TourTurf® CTB triggers natural defence responses in turf, helping resist insects, fungal pathogens, and soil-borne diseases when applied to leaves or roots. It enhances photosynthesis, promotes growth, stimulates nutrient uptake, improves germination and sprouting, and boosts plant vigour. When used as a seed treatment, it activates innate immunity during root development, preventing parasitic cyst nematodes without harming beneficial nematodes or microorganisms.

Turf applications of TourTurf® CTB can reduce environmental stress due to drought and soil deficiencies, strengthen seed vitality, improve density, increase growth, and make turf stronger. Produced from materials and by-products that are being reused as part of the circular economy, making good use of valuable resources, reducing waste, and minimizing the carbon footprint.

Product details

The Chitosan in TourTurf® CTB Chitosan Turf Booster has been recognised as a Basic Substance for Plant Protection since 2022. A recent amendment published by the European Commission highlights the inclusion of fungal chitosan in organic farming. The approval for use in organic farming is set to provide a new tool to all EU farmers and growers. It offers an effective solution for plant diseases, perfectly aligned with the principles of organic farming. Thanks to its eliciting properties, it can be used for the prevention of fungal diseases on turf.

CTB is manufactured entirely from fungal chitsosan that has a more uniform structure compared to chitosan from insect or crustacean and is more readily absorbed by plants and recognised by a plants immune system. Chitosan 10 contains at least 3 times more chitosan than competitor products and is the versatility to be used in most plantcare product types.

CTB is intended as a technical grade intermediate for use by blenders andcompounder of plantcare products and is effective when diluted down by up to 600-times.This product comes pre-diluted for easy handling and addition to aqueous products.

Introduction to chitosan
Chitosan is a linear polysaccharide composed of randomly distributed β-(1-4)-linked Dglucosamine (deacetylated unit) and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (acetylated unit). It istraditionally made from chitin found in shells of crustaceans, such as lobster, crabs and shrimp, and also in insects and fungi. It is one of the most abundant biodegradable materials in the natural environment.

Chitosan has a number of commercial uses including in agriculture where it has long andsafe history use as:

  • Natural biocontrol agent with antimicrobial effectives against a wide variety of fungi and bacteria.
  • Ecofriendly biopesticide it can pre-arm pine trees to defend themselves againstmountain pine beetle.
  • Seed treatment helping plants to fight off fungal infections, increase germination rate.
  • Soil amendment to protect against and repair damage caused by nematodes; increase dry matter contact and crop yield.
  • Foliar treatment to prevent fungal, bacterial and viral attack.
  • Post-harvest application as an edible antifungal agent to prolong shelf life.
