TourTurf STA Sports Turf Acidifier 5-0-0 + 4% Fe

TourTurf® STA Sports Turf Acidifier is a unique liquid N-fertiliser with a synergistic blend of urea nitrogen, two different iron sources and a natural wetting agent designed to improve the colour and health of turf on greens, tees, fairways and football pitches. This blend of bioactive components will help to maximize turf resiliency even under the most challenging environmental conditions like heat, drought and disease.

This product formulation is enriched with highly active turf resiliency components. TourTurf® STA has a high natural content of bioactives, including carbon, amino acids, fulvic acids, aromatic plant extracts, and polyphenols (these are natural plant compounds well studied for their antioxidant properties that help to reduce oxidative damage and enhance stress resistance).

TourTurf® STA will help to acidify the soil profile. The acidity of the product is pH 2. The pH of the solution in the spray tank will stay at a similarly low level, even when diluted with water.

Iron is an essential micronutrient for turf, vital for chlorophyll synthesis. TourTurf® STA promotes a dark green colour, perfect for cutting fairways and creating patterns. Its ferrous form ensures easy plant uptake, making it ideal for major golf and soccer events.

Urea-N is readily available to the plant and has low scorch potential. Nitrogen helps promote some additional growth without excessive fertilisation.

Product details

TourTurf® STA is ideal to be incorporated into cultural management practices, as the product is designed to lower the soil pH over time. A lower soil pH, between 5.5 and 6.5, is a better environment for growing finer turfgrass species.

TourTurf® STA provides benefits to an integrated pest and disease reduction strategy. By lowering the soil pH, it both discourages surface worm casting and creates a less ideal environment for problematic pests and turf diseases. Especially useful in an environment where the use of pesticides is restricted or not desired.Use the product year-round to promote quick recovery from disease scarring and parasitical nematode related issues in amenity turf.

STA+EPT Trial


In the right hand side of the picture 10 litres of EPT was used together with 40 litres of STA.

Fatty Acids:
Fatty acids are key building blocks of cell membranes, they benefit turf by enhancing its cell membrane structure and giving it structural stability.

Strong cells make turf more resistant to environmental stress like foot traffic or turf pathogens.

By improving the cell membrane structure, fatty acids can help turf retain more water, improving drought tolerance and reducing the need for frequent irrigation.Fatty acids can play a role in regulating physiological responses and help the plant to react to heat stress.

Healthy cell membranes are necessary for nutrient uptake, enabling turf to access water and nutrients more effectively.

Some research suggests that certain fatty acids could have antifungal properties, potentially helping to make the plant more resilient against certain turf diseases. Some fatty acids can function as signalling molecules, triggering the plants response to disease.

Directions for Use:

  • TourTurf® STA can be used on all types of sports and amenity turf
  • It can be applied all year round
  • Cut grass before application
  • For continuous soil acidification use regularly
  • Repeat every 4 weeks or as necessary until desired pH level is reached
  • Watering in is advised but not required


Monthly applications are designed to acidify the surface:

  • Rapid Green-Up without excessive foliar growth
  • Natural colour year round
  • Helps to harden turf making it less susceptible to disease and pests
  • Effective all year round especially in winter months
  • Effective in cold weather and when grass growth is slow


In extensive scientific greenhouse trials carried out at AFBI, the Agri-Food & Biosciences Institute in Belfast, we have been able to show, how we can use the fertiliser to effectively improve the growing conditions for turfgrass plants.

The final report from the TourTurf® STA, FDC & TAG turf quality trial at Oregon State University shows the potential STA has to strengthen turf resiliency while facing Fusarium (Microdochium Patch), the most detrimental turf pathogen for cool season grass in Northern Europe.
